PDFEscape Desktop is a suite of tools intended to work with PDF, an important format for sharing documents. This program is suitable for not only visualizing and annotating documents but also editing text and images. In addition, it gives the possibility of converting other types of documents to PDF.
The tool’s interface is quite similar to those of other PDF editors and creators. It has the benefits of using a ribbon where you can find the buttons to perform the most common procedures. The program can create a new document from scratch but it can also do it by importing existing files. Luckily, it supports opening an astonishing figure of more than 300 extensions. Unfortunately, such formats as DOC, XLS and PPT, are only supported if Microsoft Office is installed on the machine. PDFs can also be generated from any program that supports printing. Another possibility is to create a new file directly from a scanner.
While viewing a document, you can make any sort of annotations, such as adding text, freehand drawing, various types of shapes and sticky notes. It also allows you to manage bookmarks and hyperlinks.
As to editing features, PDFEscape Desktop lets you arrange the document by inserting and importing pages or merging various files. Likewise, it allows you to extract and delete pages. Moreover, you can rotate, crop and modify the size of the selected pages as well. Fortunately, unlike most similar tools, this one supports editing text and objects as well as creating form fields. PDFEscape Desktop can also be useful for protecting and securing documents. Thus, it can encode PDFs with 256-bit encryption.
All in all, PDFEscape Desktop supports multiple features that are hardly found in a single product, except perhaps the leaders in the field. Luckily, there is an online version of this product at no cost. It is a pity that the free desktop edition is severely limited if you compare it with the paid ones, Premium and Ultimate. Moreover, its license is paid on a monthly basis, which in the long run turns out quite expensive and uncomfortable.
